Pick pocketing. You think it only happens to tourists don't ya? You dont think it will happen to you until one day it does. I thought to myself, I'm not some lost foreigner in a new city. I live here. I take the bus all the time. I'm a big girl, no one would steal from me in broad daylight. Boy was I wrong. I was supposed to have a nice relaxing day off today. Sleep in, go to the gym, do a little shopping downtown, watch a movie... You know, all the things I love to do. Welp, that all went down the drain when my wallet was stollen out of my purse while on the bus. Yep, some sneaky little devil stole it right from under my nose. Where's your conscience? Where's your mother who should have taught you better? Geez. By the time I noticed it was too late. I was so angry i wanted to cry. I angrily announced my discovery to the 20 people sardined next to me on the bus, but they all just stared.
So, goodbye 300 dollars worth of gift cards to crate and barrel. Good bye new hobo wallet that I loved. And goodbye to my nice day off. Hello countless calls to file police reports, cancel credit cards and get a new ID and temple recommend.
Guess it could have been worse. I could have been mugged. Or they could have taken my phone too. Still, no better way to ruin a girls day. As much fun as city life is, being pick pocketed definitely puts a damper on things.
On a more positive note, we head to Utah AND Arizona in less than 48 hours. Can't wait!

City date nights

We've had some pretty fun date nights in the city lately. I am officially an employed nurse at a long term care facility. I'm excited about everything I will learn in this position, and feel so so blessed for the opportunity, especially in the horrific new nurse job market here in SF.

Most importantly, I am grateful for my Savior Jesus Christ and His church that I am lucky enough to belong to. I'm grateful for the knowledge that I have of His atonement. I'm grateful for the comfort and guidance I receive on a daily basis from my Father in Heaven.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Date night

We ventured down to the Castro this weekend for date night. Luckily it was cold and rainy so we didn't see any nudes out on the street. (This liberal city allows nudity in public places when you are in the Castro neighborhood). We heard great things about the sandwiches at Ike's as well as the unique ice cream flavored as bi-rite. If you ask me, both did not disappoint. Gotta love double date night with the Ringers! :) <div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I'm all grown up

Last weekend I was in charge of putting on an activity after stake temple day. Since when am I even old enough to do such a thing? I have a stake calling as a member of the stake activities committee. Didn't even know such a calling exists. Well, it does. And after everyone else in the committee, including the committee chairs, bailed two days before the event, it was up to me to put on the event. 150 mouths to feed, and 2 days to plan, buy, prepare and serve. So after a little panicking and a frazzled phone call to my mom, I recruited the lovely Jillian Ringer to help me. AND we got lucky and 2 people from the committee were able to show up to help. In a short day and a half we had everything ready to go. Surprisingly, everything went perfectly as planned. We had a great turn out and we had nearly the perfect amount of food. Not bad for my first go around. It was nothing fancy, but I was happy with how it turned out. I can only hope it didn't go too well... don't want to be stuck doing this forever :)

The family came to town

One of the many perks of living in a sweet city like San Fran is the many many visitors that come to see us. We love having visitors and hope that the visitors keep on coming. Something tells me that we wouldn't be quite as popular if we ended up in Buffalo, NY so I'm just going to soak all of this in while I live in this wonderful place. Anyways, this time it was Jordan's parents and sister Maren that came to town. We had such a blast! We did lots of shopping, eating out, sightseeing, and more shopping. Despite all of Jordan's studying and school work, he was still able to spend some time with us. Its always so fun to show family our fun little life here. I just wish they could have stayed longer!

<img style="display: block; It was a GREAT few days. I loved, loved, loved having them here with me. And I was sad to see them go. So basically, they should come back. I know you are reading this girls... come back! And the rest of you should come too. My tiny little apartment was certainly nothing fabulous, but we managed. Wish I would have taken a picture of the sleeping arangements... basically the whole living room was a big bed. I had a full day of clients lined up for Katie to do hair. I think everyone thought she was heaven sent. Nobody can find a stylist to do their hair for near the price that Katie does it for. Plus, she's awesome. So now half my ward has fresh, lovely hair. And I've already got a few added clients for next time :) Thanks again Kate, you are the best. Here are a few pics from the weekend...

<img style="display: block; Friday Night Lights. I know I'm a little late on this band wagon considering the series first aired in 2006, but better late than never. I just love the relationship between the coach and his wife, Matt and Landry, Tim and Lyla, etc, etc... Not to mention, I wish I was Lyla Garrity. Anyway, thank you netflix for this latest obsession. City people like dogs more than children. Everyone has dogs here, and I mean EVERYONE. Its rare to see a child in a store or restaurant, but extremely common to see dogs pretty much everywhere you go. Stores, restaurants, museums, theaters, dressing rooms... I once had a dog stare at me under the door of a dressing room in lululemon. No joke.

2. Speaking of Lululemon, the hubs gave me this adorable jacket for my san francisco living. I'm obsessed. I wear it nearly everyday when I walk to the gym, or just walking around. One thing i've noticed about this city is that TONS of people wear their work out clothes even when they aren't working out. This is great, seeing I will fit right in wearing this beauty :)
3. San Fran is foggy. How come I never knew this? It is strange to watch the fog come in, and I feel bad for all the tourists who come to see the golden gate bridge, but can't see it cause it is too foggy. But let me tell ya, the frequent presence of fog makes the sunny days oh so enjoyable!

4. Parking is tricky here. Because we live on such a commercial/retail street, parking is joke. On Fillmore there is street cleaning 4 times a week AND it is metered parking during business hours, so basically convenient parking is not an option for us. I have already gotten a parking ticket... 55 big ones. Kind of frustrating, especially considering it wasn't my fault. I put 17 minutes worth of change in the meter, was back to my car in 12 minutes and the meter was out and I had a ticket. Lame... You better believe I already sent in my appeal request. Anyway, Luckily, we belong to a wonderful church that lets us park in the building parking lot. Its only about a 10 minute walk up to the church to get the car. I guess people buy parking spots in garages and they go for like $300. That's craziness! Looks like the church parking lot it is. For now at least.

5. Got these beauties from my sweet husband for the 2 year anniversary. I'm in love and I already wear them all the time. That's the other thing about this city, it's pretty much fall weather all year long. Good thing I love my boots. Looks like I'll be getting a lot of wear out of them over the next few years!
6. The people here are warm, kind and welcoming. I have had a wonderful experience with the people I've met so far. I went to the bank the other day and everyone was so so nice. I was actually taken back. And that seems to be the general vibe I get from most people I have come in contact with. Plus, we have a fabulous ward with lots of wonderful young couples like us and I have felt extremely welcomed.

It's only been two weeks and I am loving every second. I unfortunately don't get to see my husband that much, due to a very difficult and busy 1st year of dental school, but I recognize that all that hard work is just a necessary evil. I'm still waiting on the CA board of nursing to give me clearance to take the NCLEX, then the hard core job hunt will begin. And in the mean time I fill my time with a little San Francisco exploring, a little studying, and a lot of down time :)

The Move

Its official, I'm the world's worst blogger. This time I can blame it on being really busy. I just finished my last semester of Nursing school and we made the move to San Francisco. Jordan has been in school for a few weeks now and is loving it. There are a lot of long days of studying, but so far so good. We were apart for a few weeks so I am very glad to be living with my hubby again. Some say that "home is where the heart is"... That may be true, but in my opinion, a more accurate statement would be "home is where the husband is". After 2 short days, this crazy city is already starting to feel like home. Here are a few pics from the first weekend of our new adventure :)

Shopping at Union Square

Breakfast at Mama's

This post is WAY overdue. Who needs a school declared spring break when you can create your own right?? That's what we think at least. A few weeks ago the Kerr clan came up to Utah for spring break to ski. We decided to rearrange our schedules so we could spend as much time on the slopes as possible... and rearrange we did! We ended up being up there 5 of the 6 days and had a blast! Unfortunately, I didn't take many pictures, but the week was full of lots of great food, great skiing, and even better company. Here are the few snap shots I did take...

San Fran Here We Come

In just a few short months, we'll be moving to THIS amazing city...

Jordan was accepted to the University of Pacific Dental School in San Francisco. We could not be more excited about starting this journey in one of our favorite cities. The school is located right smack dab in the middle of this city, and we plan on living right in the city as well. Jordan leaves to San Fran the first week of July. I unfortunately have to stay a little longer to finish school, but will meet him out there in August. While we're so excited, it is also a little bitter sweet thinking about leaving all our friends and family in Utah. Luckily, San Fran is just a short plane ride away, and we are expecting visitors :)

Baby Elle's Blessing

A few Sundays ago, we were able to attend our sweet niece Elle's blessing. She is so dang cute. She's seriously the best baby. I've yet to hear her really cry. She occasionally grunts when she's hungry, but that's about it. Given both mine and Jordan's infant behavior, there's no way in heck we'll get a calm child like her. So I guess we'll just have to soak it up being an aunt and uncle! :)
Anyway, her blessing was so sweet. Zach did a great job, and to top off an already wonderful event, President Monson happened to be at the ward that Sunday. He has lived in that ward for years now, and even though he's moved down town, he still owns the home and keeps his records in their ward. He is such a wonderful man. He has a special spirit about him that you can feel when you are in his presence. He is so warm, kind and friendly. We were able to shake his hand and make small talk for a little while. It is one thing to see him on the tv, and an entirely different thing to shake his hand. I felt extremely blessed to be there. My little sister Kate's response when telling her this experience sums up my feelings..."You are sooooo lucky!" :)

Christmas Break

We had a wonderful Christmas spending time with both of our families. We spent Christmas day in Salt Lake with the Christensen's and had so much fun! Festivities included:

Christmas Eve shopping trip to Fashion Place Mall with the whole clan
Classic Market Street shrimp and crab dinner on Christmas Eve
Raspberry Almond Tort
A relaxing night hanging out with family
Holding precious baby Elle
A fun filled Christmas morning exchanging gifts (we were way too spoiled!)
Lunch with the extended Jorgensen family at Grandma and Grandpas
Christmas night ended with me working at Summerfield
The following day was Sunday and we spent that day up in SLC as well. Jordan's brother and wife live in President Monson's home ward. Every year on the Sunday after Christmas he speaks in that ward. Word gets out so the place is packed with visitors (us included). It was so neat to see the Prophet speak in such a small setting. While it was slightly hard to hear due to the chatty teenage girls sitting behind us, he had a wonderful message to share and it was a neat experience.

On Monday we flew to AZ to spend a week in Mesa. Two of my cousins were married and my brother had a basketball tournament at Mountain View so we had lots of events to attend over the course of the week. Mesa activities included:

Eating at all our favorite restaurants (Tia Rosas, Mattas, Firehouse subs, PF changs, and probably many more that I cant think of right now)
Exchanging gifts with family (we were again spoiled!)
Seeing both Holly Perkinson and Emily Blair married in the Mesa temple
Attending wedding receptions
Cheering the Toros on to 3 out of 4 victories in the basketball tournament
A Last Chance run (7 shirts and a pair of Steve Madden flats for 60 bucks!)
Watching Movies (True Grit was the favorite)
Being an old married couple and spending New Year's Eve with my aunts, uncles, and little cousins (Just as fun as any other New Year's I've had)
And spending quality time with the family

Overall we had a wonderful, relaxing Christmas Break. I wasn't sure I was ready to come back to school and work. I unfortunately didn't take 1 single picture on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, but here are a few pics from the break.

<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; It was the first day that Dental schools could send out acceptance letters. Ehhhh nerve racking? Absolutely. However, if he didn't get in on December 1st that didn't necessarily mean he wouldn't get in at all. The schools have all the way into the Spring to fill all the seats for the class of 2011, but Jord reeeeeeally wanted to get in on the first day. Ease the burden a little ya know? Well, luckily for him (and me) he did it!!! He was accepted by TWO schools yesterday. Both UNLV in Las Vegas, and University of Buffalo in Buffalo, NY. Two opposite ends of the country, and we couldn't be more thrilled! Out of the 6 schools he interviewed at, he was accepted to 2, waitlisted at 2 (Louisville and Midwestern in AZ), and then we haven't heard from the other 2 in Southern California. We both sighed a huge breath of relief and are so excited for next year. Lets just say I'm a very proud wifey today. Life is good :)

PS, to top off an already excellent day, Jordan's intramural flag football team won the upper division championship game last night. After a few years of playing together, and most of the teams last year in Provo, it was a great win. So not only was Jordan's future career as a Dentist solidified, but he is now a BYU intramural champ. Woo!

Quick lil' Mesa trip

This last weekend we made a quick weekend trip down to Mesa. Jord had an interview at Midwestern's Dental school down in Glendale so we decided to make a trip out of it. It didn't turn out to be much of a vacation for Jord. He ended up having to be in Cali part of the weekend for a different interview as well, so his vacation time was short lived. I had a nice relaxing weekend however spending time with the fam, and enjoying the 80 degree weather. Unfortunately I only left with 2 pictures of the trip (courtesy of Libby).

Me and Libs took Maddy and Kate mini golfing (i like to call it goofy golfing, but according to the hubs, thats not what its called!) Anyway, Kate, the cutest first grader in town, had perfect attendance last month so she had a free round of mini golf coupon. We took advantage of the free round and had a blast at the good ole Golfland.

Then on Saturday we went to my cousin's baby shower. She's prego with twin girls. Thats 2 babies people! I was seriously overwhelmed by the amount of clothing those babies are going to have to wear in their short infant lives. Here's a quick snap shot of the Kerr girls at the shower.

Other than that, we ate at all the favorite AZ restaurants, attended a MVT football game (don't ask), did a little shopping at Scottsdale Fashion Square, watched Toy Story 3, took family pictures for the Christmas card (always a pleasant experience), and just hung out. It was a fun trip. And we even get to go back in a few weeks for Turkey Day.

New Jobs

We're excited to report that both Jordan and I have new jobs. Yes, we're still employed at our old ones (Sammy's and the MTC), but we've both recently started working two jobs.

Ali: I've been casually searching for a job in the nursing field (hospital, doctor's office, nursing home, rest home, pretty much anything I could get) for hmm about a year now. I finally got a job offer at an assisted living facility in north Orem called Summerfield. Its a really nice facility, and I was very relieved to get an opportunity to get my foot in the door in the Nursing field. My weeks of training went well and I was feeling confident to be working on my own. However, these first few shifts on my own have been.... well, challenging. A CNA is quite possibly the most underpaid/grossest/physically hard/rewarding jobs out there. I mean seriously, I'm certainly not strong enough to heave 400 lb people from the bed, to the wheel chair, to the toilet, back to the wheel chair alllllll day long. Yet, somehow I manage (most of the time). And really, as the oldest of 6 kids, I'm used to changing baby diapers. But changing big people diapers is a WHOLE different story. 9 bucks an hour seems hardly worth it. But then there are those moments, when they so appreciate all the help I give them, and nothing is better than that sincere smile and look that says, "I couldn't do it without you". Those are the moments that make it worth it. And not to mention the many life lessons I've learned in these first few weeks, which include:
1) I dont want to get old. I'd rather die young. Being old is miserable.
2) If i do get old and dont die before I become incontinent and confused, I'm going to remember to be kind, grateful, and laidback. These are desirable characteristics in anyone, especially the elderly in a rest home.
3) Life's too short to not live it to the fullest. Many of the people I take care of feel like they don't know where there lives went. I want to end this life knowing I lived a good, happy life.
Anyway, despite how hard the new job is, I'm grateful for this opportunity. The experience is worth it. Well that's what I tell myself at least, cause heaven knows the pay isn't :)

Jordan: As if my hubby isn't busy enough with school, applying/interviewing at dental schools, volunteering, and work, he decided to get another job as well. Aside from the 20 hours a week he spends enlightening the missionaries at the MTC, he is now employed by Alice Lane (that cute furniture store on the corner of state street and university parkway, next to the In-n-Out). His friend's sister owns the store, and if you haven't been there, its worth the trip. A little pricey for poor college kids like us, but reaaaaaally cute stuff! Anyway, He spends approx. 10 hours a week doing manly things at the store, like moving furniture, hanging heavy things, etc. He enjoys the mental break from school and work at the MTC. I think I can speak for him in saying that, like me, he's grateful for this opportunity at a second job as well.

Life is busy at the Christensen home, but life is good :)

Samoa Cookies Anyone

Is anyone else obsessed with the Samoa girl scout cookie? I knew I'd be bad at this whole blogging thing, but I didn't think I'd be THIS bad. Oh well. I guess it just means I'll have to do king sized updates with lots and lots of pics. So... Here it goes!

We had a wonderful holiday season with both our families. We spent Thanksgiving down in AZ with my family. Then for Christmas break we drove to California to be in San Clemente for my cousin Spencer and his cute new wife Taylor's wedding. We spent the next few days before Christmas in Oceanside with Jordan's family who met us there. We went to Disneyland, the U of U bowl game in San Diego, hung out by the ocean, did some mad go-kart racing, and of course shopping. It was so much fun! Here are a few of the pics from that trip

After Cali we headed to Arizona for Christmas. Mesa brought us a little sunshine, time with family and good food (pretty much all we do on vacation is eat). It was a blast and we're lucky to have the two most wonderful families. We've both been pretty busy this semester. Jordan has a mile long list of things he's doing including too many hard classes, studying for the DAT (which he takes in June), shadowing a few dentists, research, volunteering at a dental clinic, and working at the MTC. I started my nursing program at Provo College and have loved it so far. I still work at Sammy's and enjoy the pie shakes too frequently. :) In between we fit in some date nights and spending time with friends and family. We've taken a few trips down to Richfield with our friends Jake and Kalei, which is always a blast. My family came up for springbreak and we enjoyed a few days a skiing at Deer Valley with the my fam and the Zaharis clan. Thats always a blast as well! Life is busy, but great.

Now... For the real reason I even decided to blog in the first place. We just got home from a trip to San Francisco this last weekend and had the time of our lives! San Francisco has a Dental school at the University of Pacific that both Jordan and I are hoping he gets in to. Its one of the top schools in the nation and has a strong clinical base emphasis early on in the program, which is definitely a plus. My neighbor growing up, Chad Curtis and his wife are in Dental school at Pacific right now and when Jordan talked to Chad he suggested we try and get out to San Fran to visit the school and meet with the dean. After he very generously offered to let us stay at his apartment, we decided to make the trip. Jordan got to meet with the dean and tour the school while we were there. Meanwhile, we got to see the beautiful city of San Fransisco and had tons of fun.
San Fran is probably the coolest city I've ever been to. It rivals NYC for me. Its so unique and beautiful. The architecture and homes through out the city are unlike any I've ever seen. There's so much to do and see, I just couldn't get enough. There's like a million yummy restaurants to eat at and cool shopping on lots of the streets. We ate at this bomb breakfast place called Mama's. If you're ever in San Fran, I highly recommend it. We went shopping down at Union square and boy was that an experience. Its a tad bit on the scary side down there, to say the least. I saw more cracked out homeless people, sketchy looking men that I swear were dealing drugs in broad daylight, and an abundance of homosexuals than I've ever seen before. Parking is slightly ridiculous downtown so after about an hour of searching the streets for a free meter, we decided to ask a cop where the best place to park was. His response: "Not here. You're car will get broken into." followed by a chuckle. He apparently thought that was funny, while I was a little more on the frightened side. When we finally found a parking garage, across from the Hilton hotel where all the employees where on strike, Jordan asked the man at the gate if the car would be safe there. His response: (in a Hispanic accent) "If a man comes in with a gun, what am I supposed to do?" Comforting. Luckily, we got to do our shopping and returned to our car still in one piece. I couldn't help but laugh at the whole situation and appreciate the change of scene from my sheltered Mesa/Provo life.
In the short 2 1/2 days we were there, we saw the Golden Gate bridge, visited Sausalito, visited Fisherman's wharf and Ghiradelli square, where we enjoyed a delicious 9 dollar sundae, went shopping, ate at yummy restaurants, saw the Painted Ladies (the Fullhouse houses), went to Farmers market, and drove around the city admiring it's uniqueness. Here's a few pictures from the trip. Unfortunately it happened to be windy every time we tried to take a pic... therefore hair in the face. Oh well.

Good News

Well, we received some happy news last week regarding my education... I finally got accepted into the Provo College Nursing program! After many months of stressing over what plan B should be, considering that BYU's Nursing program decided to reject me (their loss right?!), I was very relieved to open that acceptance letter. I start the program in January, and can hardly wait! That means I say so long to BYU, and embrace Provo College for the next 22 months. Things finally fell into place and we're very happy about it! :)

Happy Halloween

Is it weird to anyone else that we're already into the month of November? Feels like the semester just barely started. But Halloween has already come and past, and now we're into the holiday season. Kinda crazy. Life seems to keep speeding by. Anyway, we had a surprisingly fun Halloween this year. I was originally scheduled to be working at Sammy's til midnight on Halloween, but due to a little over-staffing and a little under-serving (Sammy's was dead that night), I was able to get off early. Happy day! I was already dressed up for work, so our next task was to get Jord a costume. He started brain storming while I finished up some last things at work. I soon get a phone call from my cute hubby telling me that he's managed to fit into my scrubs, which were a bit snug on him, and was planning to be a gay proctologist... A what?! Well, for those of you who don't know, a proctologist is a butt doctor. And the gay part comes from the extremely tight fitting scrubs that accentuated his back side and managed to show a little mid-drif too. :) Clever right?! I thought so.
So now that we were all dressed up and feeling spontaneous we decided to revisit the single party life style and hit up one of the Halloween parties in Provo with our friends Raegan and Joey. It had been a while since we frequented the dance floor and I remembered why I stopped going to those dance parties to begin with. Unfortunately, the line for the haunted house was a little too long, so we ended up not staying too long but it was pretty fun! After we stopped by 7-11 to get some hot chocolate and went home to watch a movie! Over all, it was an adventurous
night for us married folk and a heck of a lot better than working!

Honeymoon

For our honeymoon we headed to Florida to get on our Cruise ship to the Bahamas, which was a blast! Cruises are the best. Who doesn't enjoy a week full of all you can eat buffets, hilarious karaoke nights, and sweet beaches in the Bahamas?? One of the days while we were on Nassau island we rented a scooter and took a tour around the island. Luckily jord was driving the scoot because apparently they drive on the left side of the road in the Bahamas... scary! We were sad to say good bye to the honey moon, but excited to have reception # 2 in Salt Lake!

Wedding Pictures

<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; I'm a little behind in my own personal journal here, so this may be a rather long update... bear with me!

Sooo after 3 1/2 long months of being engaged (which felt like FOREVER) we finally made it to the wedding date on August 14th and every part of the day was even more amazing than I had pictured it. Thanks to the many hands of my family and friends, the reception in Mesa was incredible. I'm not even sure I got to soak it in as much as I wanted to, but looking back on pictures now, everything was beautiful! Surprisingly, I even enjoyed being in the line for most of the time. And then when we hit the dance floor, the real party began! We had such a blast and part of me is disappointed that it happened so fast.

Luckily, we had the open house in Salt Lake to look forward to, which was just as amazing as the one in Mesa. Its been my dream since i was little to have an outside reception. When we decided to get hitched during the hottest time of the year in Mesa, I started to realize that my dreams may be ruined by the 115 degree heat. Luckily, I got to have the best of both worlds by having an inside one in Mesa, and a gorgeous outside reception at Jordan's uncle Scott and aunt Linda's house. The whole Christensen/Jorgensen clan put so much time and effort into the open house and once again, it totally exceeded our expectations. I loved getting to relive the night over again!

Once the wedding festivities were over, we started to get settled into our little apartment in Provo while starting school and getting back into the swing of things with work. Sad to say, its taken us these full 2 months to get settled but finally our apartment is starting to feel like a home. Its been fun for us to paint/decorate, but its kind of a lot of work. I can only imagine decorating an entire house... seems like a daunting task! Now we've jumped right back into hectic life or work and school, but married life really is the best. Everyone told me that before I got married, and now we get to experience it ourselves!

New Blogger

Well, I finally decided to give this blogging thing a try.
